Cambridge Energy Alliance
Save Money. Save the Planet.
The Cambridge Energy Alliance (CEA) was formed in 2007 by a coalition of local government, public utility and non-profit entities. CEA serves as a model for municipalities throughout Massachusetts and the US to successfully reduce energy use and carbon emissions from residential and commercial buildings.
In late 2008, Light Partnership began work with CEA. At the time, the level of service offered by CEA and its partners did not meet expectations, while consumer benefits were not well defined. Just as important, CEA’s web presence did not allow them to establish a dialogue with their audience in Cambridge and beyond.
In 2009, Light launched Energy 2.0 (energytwodotzero.org) a fully customized blog where CEA staff and other contributors post articles and web links–from how to insulate windows, to meeting dates for local conservation groups, all the way to the latest on the Copenhagen Accord. This was followed by a completely redesigned CambridgeEnergyAlliance.org. A Facebook group and Twitter account were soon added. CEA can now broadcast details on community events, update available rebates, post energy-saving tips, and get immediate community feedback and participation. For a recent CFL Bulb Exchange Day, CEA used electronic media channels to recruit volunteers, inform residents and report results.
Beginning this month, CEA is hosting an exhibit on climate change–and what Cambridge residents can do to reduce its effects–at locations throughout the city. Light created a series of posters explaining the science of climate change, how the choices we make as consumers increase or decrease CO2 emissions and where Cambridge residents can get help to become more energy efficient. A selection of these posters is included in this document.
By utilizing Light Partnership’s branding skills, graphic and interactive design capabilities, social media and technology expertise, CEA connects and engages with the Cambridge community they serve. And delivers on their brand promise:
“Save Money. Save the Planet.”
